Please join us in welcoming James T. Williams as Senior Vice President of Cyber/IT at TripleCyber.
We had the opportunity to sit down with James and hear his perspective on cybersecurity, leadership, and what brought him to TripleCyber. After a 20-year career in the United States Marine Corps and over 30 years of specialized experience in counterintelligence, James approaches cybersecurity through a threat-focused lens rather than a system management one — and the difference is significant.
A Threat-First Mindset
James brings a rare combination of military precision and intelligence tradecraft to the cybersecurity domain. His years in counterintelligence have shaped a perspective that many in the industry lack: the ability to think like an adversary.
"I have a few really smart people doing cybersecurity. I have ten million people out there trying to break the network. I look at it from their perspective," James told us.
This adversarial mindset — understanding not just how to defend systems, but how attackers think, adapt, and probe for weaknesses — is exactly the kind of leadership TripleCyber needs as it continues to build and deploy its Zero Trust security stack.
The Human Element in Cybersecurity
While James is a strong champion of Zero Trust architecture and rigorous security protocols, he was quick to emphasize that technology alone is never the full answer.
"Our users and people are both our biggest strength for security and cybersecurity, but they're also our biggest weakness," he noted. Password discipline, unsecured network access, and lack of security awareness remain among the most common and consequential vulnerabilities in any organization.
James believes that organizational culture and workforce education are as critical as the technical controls that protect them. Building a security-conscious culture — where employees understand the stakes and take ownership of their role in protecting data — is a multiplier that no software can replicate.
Leadership That Knows Its People
One of James' most memorable insights during our conversation was about the nature of effective leadership in high-stakes environments:
"Never underestimate the importance of a phone call or face-to-face meeting."
James does not believe in leading from a distance. He insists on knowing the people on his team as individuals — their strengths, their challenges, and what motivates them. In his view, treating team members as "butts in seats" rather than people is a failure of leadership, not just management style.
"Every one of these individuals that support these missions are real people with real families and real problems," he emphasized.
This human-centric approach is especially relevant in the cybersecurity field, where burnout is endemic, stakes are high, and the work demands sustained attention and judgment from every team member.
What James Brings to TripleCyber
James Williams joins TripleCyber at a pivotal moment. As the company accelerates the deployment of its full Zero Trust product suite — including TripleEnable, TripleQuantum PKI, Tr3sPass, and TripleGateway — having seasoned executive leadership with deep intelligence and operational experience is essential.
His contributions to TripleCyber include:
- Strategic threat intelligence — applying counterintelligence tradecraft to understand and anticipate adversary tactics
- Organizational security culture — building and sustaining workforce awareness programs that complement technical controls
- Enterprise leadership — managing complex, multi-stakeholder cybersecurity initiatives with military-grade discipline
- Client and partner trust — bringing credibility and confidence to engagements with government, defense, and enterprise clients
